Xpand 2 midi channels not working in Ableton.

Hi

When I drop an instance of Xpand2 into a track in Ableton and set up each sound as midi 1-4 in Xpand2 it does not play any sound from channels 2-4 even if "midi from all channels" is selected in Ableton.

I just have midi channel 2 set up on all Xpand2 sounds and "midi from all channels" is selected in Ableton I get no sound.

All midi channels in Xpand need to be set to 1 to get any sound out of it. I am using a Novation Launch Key keyboard but I don't have this problem in Logic.

  • Hi Donny,

    Thanks for posting.

Can you please post your full system specs, as well as the version of Xpand!2 being used?

  • Got it figured out. Ableton Live one midi clip can only trigger 1 MIDI channel.

Put Xpand on 1 midi channel and then set up a new midi channel with no plugin on it.

This track is used as a carrier for the clips that you want to trigger MIDI ch. 1 in Xpand. From "MIDI To" select the MIDI track you've loaded Xpand on (Step 2 - will most probably look like "1-Xpand!2") then from the 2nd drop down list just below it select "1-Xpand!2".

By default there's a number before Xpand on your first selection too and that is the MIDI track's number so it will look like "1-Xpand!2" (if you load Xpand on the first MIDI track).

The numbers which appear in the 2nd drop down list are actually MIDI channel numbers so you'll have a list of 17 items - first is "Track in", then you have 1-Xpand!2, 2-Xpand!2 ... 16-Xpand!2, for all 16 available MIDI channels.

If anyone else runs into the same problem
